The Insikt Group/Recorded Future report analyzes 2025 cyber activity in Latin America and the Caribbean, documenting widespread financially motivated cybercrime (ransomware, banking trojans, infostealers, botnets), increasing APT overlap, and novel TTPs such as NFC-relay malware targeting contactless payments; it highlights high-impact ransomware incidents (452 LAC incidents), large-scale data exposures, active malware families (LummaC2, Vidar, PhantomCard/RelayNFC, etc.), and operational tradecraft used across dark-web forums and encrypted messaging platforms, concluding that the region remains a high-value, rapidly evolving target requiring improved defenses and cross-border cooperation.
