The Hunt for Malaysia’s Elusive Wildlife Trafficker

Bellingcat investigates an online wildlife trafficker known as BK who uses TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, and WhatsApp to advertise and sell endangered species, frequently implying a Malaysia base. Through analysis of social media posts, historical username changes, a G‑Shock fan club list, a disgruntled customer’s complaint with photos, and geolocation including Google Street View matching a house and animal cage in Klang, the report links BK to a likely real identity and location while noting a customer base that includes Thailand. Despite platform policy violations and account takedowns by TikTok and Meta, BK quickly reestablishes new accounts. Authorities in Malaysia and Thailand were contacted but largely did not respond, and experts highlight the animal welfare and conservation harms of the trade.
