LG to Ban Residential Proxies from Smart TV Apps

A research investigation revealed that over 42% of apps in LG's webOS catalog—primarily games and entertainment apps—had integrated third-party residential proxy SDKs that silently turned Smart TVs into relay nodes for web scraping, ad fraud, credential stuffing, and other third-party traffic. LG has said it will suspend offending apps and audit the app store; recommended mitigations include segmenting TVs onto a restricted VLAN, auditing and removing suspicious apps, and using DNS-based filtering (Pi-hole/AdGuard/NextDNS).
