Fake scandal clips on Facebook bait victims into investment scams

Bitdefender uncovered 310 coordinated malvertising campaigns on Meta platforms (Feb–Mar 2026) that used localized fake-news narratives—celebrity wills, banking scandals, and political exposes—to funnel victims to cloned media pages and fraudulent investment platforms; the operation generated over 26,000 ad sightings across 15+ languages, employed redirect chains and moderation-evasion techniques (domain rotation, homoglyphs, whitelisted preview abuse), and appears to be a modular, financially motivated franchise operated by region-specific affiliates.
