General Motors reached a $12.75 million settlement with California after prosecutors alleged the company unlawfully sold California drivers' precise location and behavioral data to brokers; the settlement (pending court approval) requires deletion of retained driving data unless consumers consent, a five-year ban on selling driving data to consumer reporting agencies, and establishment of an ongoing privacy program and reporting to state authorities.
