Canonical ships Ubuntu Core 26 with 15 years of security maintenance

Ubuntu Core 26 is Canonical's new long-term supported immutable OS release for embedded and edge devices, offering up to 15 years of security maintenance. Key changes include a more efficient snap-delta format for much smaller OTA updates, a Chisel-based build system for precise provenance and smaller images, improved boot and u-boot partitioning, TPM-sealed LUKS2 keys and OP-TEE/TrustZone integration for hardware-rooted key protection, Livepatch support on ARM64, and developer/observability tooling enhancements; Canonical also assumes manufacturer responsibilities to aid compliance with the EU Cyber Resilience Act.
