Spain reports first data breach involving autonomous AI agent

Spain’s data protection authority (AEPD) reported its first breach attributed to an autonomous AI agent that scanned for weaknesses, logged into a company application, exploited a flaw to modify personal data, and accessed invoices. Authorities warn this demonstrates AI agents are accelerating known malicious techniques, reducing defenders’ response time, and recommend stronger baseline controls, faster vulnerability management, tighter identity protection, supplier oversight, and governance of agent use.
