What we know about Iran’s Internet shutdown

Cloudflare Radar data indicates Iran experienced a near-total Internet shutdown beginning January 8–9, 2026, following protests, preceded by a marked shift away from HTTP/3/QUIC and a 98.5% drop in announced IPv6 address space. Overall traffic fell ~90% before collapsing to effectively zero, with only brief, limited restorations (e.g., queries to 1.1.1.1 and short-lived connectivity at several universities) observed on January 9. As of January 10, Iran remained largely cut off from the global Internet.
