Network performance update: Security Week 2024

Cloudflare reports continued leadership in network performance, ranking fastest by 95th percentile TCP connection time in 44% of the top 1000 networks (Nov 18, 2023–Feb 15, 2024) and achieving 73% of networks for mean connection time, outpacing Amazon, Akamai, Google, and Fastly. The analysis highlights consistent day-over-day advantages—about 50 ms faster than Amazon at P95 globally and nearly 200 ms faster than Akamai—driven largely by HTTP/3 adoption, which reduces P95 connect time by 116 ms compared to non-HTTP/3 endpoints. The methodology uses Real User Measurements via error-page triggers and a fixed list of 1000 networks to ensure consistent, representative benchmarking.
