Our Experience with Golang | UpGuard

An engineer reflects on rewriting a large JRuby application in Go, concluding the migration was successful: Go offered approachable syntax, strong concurrency primitives, composable libraries, good tooling, and compact distributables, which suited their SSH-heavy, concurrent scanning use case. Major grievances included lack of generics, variable shadowing issues, dangerous mutable slice semantics, and absence of compiler-enforced immutability, but overall the team found Go the right long-term choice.
