Face value: What it takes to fool facial recognition

ESET demonstrated how readily available tools—modified smart glasses, AI-generated images, and face-swap software—can be used to defeat facial recognition and eKYC systems: extracting identities from public spaces, opening a bank account using a synthetic face, and evading watchlist detection by swapping faces in real time. These proof-of-concept tests highlight fragility in biometric-based identity verification and call for adversarial testing and stronger multi-factor controls.
