Nigerian man extradited from France to US over hacking and fraud allegations

A Nigerian national, Chukwuemeka Victor Amachukwu, was extradited from France to the U.S. to face charges including conspiracy to commit computer intrusions, wire fraud, and aggravated identity theft. U.S. authorities allege that from around 2019 he and co-conspirators used targeted spearphishing against tax preparation firms to steal thousands of customers' personal and tax records, filed fraudulent IRS returns seeking approximately $8.4 million (obtaining ~$2.5M), and submitted about $819,000 in fraudulent SBA EIDL claims; he is also accused of operating a separate fake investment scheme.
