US Takes Down Notorious Warzone RAT Malware Operation, Arrests 2

On February 9, 2024 the U.S. Department of Justice, working with international partners and private cybersecurity firms, dismantled the infrastructure behind Warzone RAT, seized the website used to sell the malware, and arrested two suspects — one in Malta who managed distribution and one in Nigeria who developed and maintained the RAT. Warzone RAT, active since 2018, enabled full remote control of infected systems for data theft, spying via webcams/microphones, and ransom-like lockouts; the disruption is a significant law-enforcement victory but technical details remain undisclosed and continued vigilance is advised.
