82 Chrome Extensions Found Selling User Data, 6.5 Million Users Affected

LayerX Security's investigation identified 82 Chrome extensions (across 94 store listings) that explicitly collect and sell user data—affecting at least 6.5 million users—with 75 extensions still live on the Chrome Web Store; the extensions track streaming and browsing activity (including Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Amazon Prime), infer demographics via third-party databases, and 29 operate as sales-intelligence tools that can expose internal corporate browsing and SaaS usage.
