Study Finds AI Can Guess Crypto Seed Phrases in 0.02 Seconds

This article presents a study by NFTEvening and Storible evaluating whether LSTM neural networks can reconstruct missing words in BIP39 cryptocurrency seed phrases, analyzing 85.7 million combinations. A model trained for 30 days achieved ~994k guesses per second and could recover 1 missing word in 0.02s, 2 in 29s, 3 in ~2.3 hours, and up to 4 in ~178 hours, while recovering 8 missing words would exceed the age of the universe. The authors conclude that, given current AI and computational limits, seed phrases remain secure if kept secret, and AI does not presently pose a practical risk to wallet recovery resistance.
