Nissan Confirms Data Breach Affected 100,000 Customers and Employees

Nissan Oceania confirmed a December 5, 2023 cyberattack—attributed by the actor Akira—to have exposed roughly 100,000 customers, dealers, and employees; up to 10% of those affected may have had government-issued IDs exposed (including Medicare cards, driver’s licenses, passports, and tax file numbers). The attacker claimed to have stolen 128 GB of data and published files when ransom demands were allegedly refused; Nissan is notifying impacted individuals, offering identity/credit support, and investigating the extent of the leak.
