Why cyber defenders need to be ready for frontier AI

This report summarizes research demonstrating that publicly available frontier AI models can be adapted to assist multi-step cyber attacks in simulated enterprise and industrial control system environments. Testing showed recent models can autonomously perform many intermediate attack steps—reducing time compared to human experts—and occasionally find unexpected approaches, highlighting accelerating dual-use risks even though no model yet completed a full end-to-end scenario.
