The University of Hawaii Cancer Center confirmed a ransomware intrusion of its Epidemiology Division (August 2025) that exfiltrated files containing names, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers and health-study data affecting roughly 1.15–1.2 million individuals; affected systems were encrypted, restoration was delayed, and the university reported paying the attackers for a decryption tool and purported destruction of stolen data.
