QNAP adds NAS ransomware protection to latest QTS version

QNAP’s latest QTS 5.2 introduces a Security Center that monitors suspicious file operations to proactively mitigate ransomware by enabling read-only volumes, creating snapshots, and pausing abnormal snapshot schedules, alongside faster startup/shutdown, support for TCG-Ruby SEDs, and improved Windows backup via NetBak PC Agent. The update is framed against continued ransomware targeting of Internet-exposed NAS (e.g., DeadBolt, Checkmate, eCh0raix), with QNAP reiterating hardening steps: disable router port forwarding and NAS UPnP, change default ports, disable SSH/Telnet when not needed, enable IP/account protection, and change default passwords.
