Switzerland: Play ransomware leaked 65,000 government documents

The Swiss NCSC reports that the Play ransomware gang breached Xplain on 23 May 2023 and subsequently published approximately 1.3 million files; about 65,000 of those files were relevant to the Swiss Federal Administration, including around 5,000 documents containing sensitive personal data, classified information, technical documentation, and passwords. The leak affected several federal departments (notably units within the Federal Department of Justice and Police and minor impact to the Defence Department), and an administrative investigation launched on 23 August 2023 is ongoing to triage and analyze the leaked material.
