Microsoft warns that the Windows 10 July 2024 preview update (KB5040525) can cause up to 30 minutes of black screens during Azure Virtual Desktop logins and trigger SSO failures in Office apps, due to a deadlock involving the Azure AD broker and AppxSvc/Background tasks services. The problem is more likely in environments using FSLogix user profile containers and is distinct from a separate AppxSvc issue fixed in October 2024 (KB5045594). Home and Pro users are less likely to be affected as AVD is primarily enterprise-focused.
