Microsoft and Cloudflare reported that the Aisuru (Turbo Mirai-class) IoT botnet conducted record-breaking high-rate UDP DDoS attacks—peaking at reported sizes up to 22.2 Tbps and billions of packets per second—launched from hundreds of thousands of compromised devices (IP cameras, routers, DVRs/NVRs, Realtek-based devices). The attacks used minimal source spoofing and random source ports, aiding traceback and mitigation; researchers link the botnet’s rapid growth to a compromised TotoLink router firmware update server that added roughly 100,000 devices.
