Microsoft published mitigations and manual remediation steps for a known WSUS synchronization issue causing Windows Update scans to fail or time out on client (Windows 10 1607+) and server (Windows Server 2012+) platforms. Administrators are advised to back up each SUSDB, run a provided SQL cleanup query across SUSDB instances (including replicas), reset MaxXMLPerRequest to its default, reindex SUSDB, run the WSUS Server Cleanup Wizard, and reset IIS or recycle the WsusPool; Microsoft rolled out a service-side mitigation for new or rebuilt WSUS installations and reported no exploitation of this issue.
