Esse Health says recent data breach affects over 263,000 patients

Esse Health, a St. Louis healthcare provider, notified 263,601 patients that a cybercriminal gained network access on April 21, 2025, copied files containing personal and health-related data (names, addresses, DOBs, insurance info, medical record and patient account numbers), and caused prolonged outages of patient-facing systems; restoration continued into June and the organization is offering free identity protection, while investigators suspect ransomware-style activity though no extortion claim or SSNs/NextGen EMR compromise were reported.
