Scammers are sending fake “Notice of Default” texts impersonating state courts and DMVs in multiple U.S. states that include an image with an embedded QR code; scanning the code forces victims through a CAPTCHA and redirects them to phishing sites (examples: ny.gov-skd.org, ny.ofkhv.life) which request a $6.99 payment and collect personal and credit card information for fraud and identity theft.
