A widespread phishing campaign discovered by Proofpoint uses a 'free baby grand piano' lure to target mainly North American university students and faculty; victims are asked to pay $595–$915 for delivery via Zelle, PayPal, Apple Pay, Chime, or Cash App. The operation sent approximately 125,000 emails, includes follow-up messages posing as a moving company, and Proofpoint linked a Bitcoin wallet holding over $900,000 to the activity, with some infrastructure traced to a Nigerian IP address.
