Tornado Cash cryptomixer dev gets 64 months for laundering $2 billion

Alexey Pertsev, a core developer of the Tornado Cash decentralized cryptocurrency mixer, was sentenced to 64 months in prison after Dutch authorities found the platform enabled laundering of between $1.2 billion and $2.2 billion in stolen Ether from at least 36 hacks; Tornado Cash was used by cybercriminals (including North Korea-linked Lazarus) to obfuscate proceeds, leading to U.S. sanctions, prosecutions of founders, confiscation of assets, and disruption of related services and accounts.
