A large dataset purportedly from a 2021 AT&T breach containing names, addresses, mobile numbers, encrypted and then decrypted dates of birth and social security numbers (~71–73 million records) was offered for sale by ShinyHunters and later leaked for free by another actor; AT&T maintains it found no evidence its systems were breached, provenance remains uncertain, but some records have been independently verified and the leak raises significant risk of phishing, SIM swapping and identity theft.
