Microsoft’s Windows Metadata and Internet Services (WMIS) has been intermittently unreachable since November, causing Event ID 131/201 errors and significant delays in device/printer management across organizations; despite February 2024 updates (KB5034763/KB5034765) that moved metadata downloads to HTTPS and a new URL, a DNS issue for the new endpoint (devicemetadataservice.trafficmanager.net) prevents connectivity, leaving errors and operational impacts unresolved.
