Following the August 2024 Windows Patch Tuesday, Microsoft applied an SBAT update intended to block vulnerable GRUB2/UEFI shim bootloaders (CVE-2022-2601), and many users report Secure Boot-enabled dual-boot systems (Ubuntu, Mint, Zorin, Puppy, etc.) now fail to boot with "Verifying shim SBAT data failed: Security Policy Violation" errors; affected users say disabling Secure Boot and reinstalling/updating Linux is the only reliable workaround, while Microsoft states the policy should not affect dual-boot systems.
