Microsoft has removed problematic January 2024 Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) updates (KB5034441/KB5034440/KB5034439) that produced generic 0x80070643 installation errors when the WinRE partition lacked sufficient free space and replaced them with KB5042320/KB5042321/KB5042322; the original updates fixed CVE-2024-20666 (a BitLocker encryption bypass), and Microsoft now requires users to expand the WinRE partition by ~250 MB (manually or via provided script) before the replacement updates will be offered.
