Google to kill Chrome Sync on older Chrome browser versions

Google announced that Chrome Sync will stop working in early 2025 on Chrome builds more than four years old, prompting error messages like “Update Chrome to start sync” and requiring users to upgrade to continue syncing bookmarks, passwords, tabs, and settings. The change aligns with previous measures (ending sync for very old versions, blocking third-party access to private APIs, and deprecating Manifest V2), and appears aimed at moving users to up-to-date, securely patched Chrome releases.
