Microsoft is speeding up the Teams desktop client for Windows

Microsoft will introduce a new Teams child process (ms-teams_modulehost.exe) in January 2026 to handle calling functions separately from the main app, improving startup and call performance without changing user workflows; IT admins should allowlist the executable and brief helpdesk staff to prevent false positives. Additional rollouts include stronger protection against malicious links and file types in Teams, automatic blocking of meeting screen-capture attempts, the ability to report messages flagged in error, and File Explorer preloading tests to boost Windows 11 performance.
