The FTC finalized an order against GM and its OnStar unit for collecting and selling drivers’ precise geolocation and driving behavior data without consent via the Smart Driver feature, banning sharing with consumer reporting agencies for five years and requiring 20 years of explicit consent, access, deletion, and opt-out controls for consumers; this follows a Texas AG lawsuit alleging Allstate’s Arity SDK and several automakers similarly harvested and sold driving data through popular apps.
