Experian fined $3.2 million for mass-collecting personal data

Experian Netherlands was fined EUR 2.7 million by the Dutch Data Protection Authority for unlawfully collecting and using personal data from public and private sources (including the Chamber of Commerce and utilities) to produce credit assessments that affected consumers’ access to services and costs; Experian acknowledged the violations, will not appeal, has ceased operations in the country, and committed to deleting the collected database before year‑end.
