Moldovan charged for operating botnet used to push ransomware

The U.S. Justice Department indicted Moldovan national Alexander Lefterov for operating a large botnet (aka Alipako/Uptime/Alipatime) that infected thousands of U.S. computers to steal credentials, provide hidden VNC access to attackers, and lease access to other criminals—facilitating fraud, account takeover, and ransomware distribution.
