Car rental giant Avis data breach impacts over 299,000 customers

Avis notified customers that an unauthorized actor accessed one of its business applications between August 3–6, 2024 and subsequently stole personal information for roughly 299,006 U.S. customers; the company says it evicted the actor, engaged external cybersecurity experts, informed regulators, and is offering affected customers one year of Equifax credit monitoring while strengthening security controls.
