Former govt contractor convicted for wiping dozens of federal databases

Two former federal contractors, Sohaib and Muneeb Akhter, allegedly accessed employer and government systems after being fired and wiped approximately 96 government databases—removing sensitive investigative and FOIA records across multiple federal agencies. Prosecutors say they stole credentials, write‑protected targeted databases to prevent modification, deleted records, attempted to destroy evidence (including wiping laptops and asking an AI how to clear logs), and now face charges including destruction of records, computer fraud, aggravated identity theft, and theft of government information.
