Los Angeles Unified School District investigates data theft claims

Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) is investigating claims that a threat actor is selling ~11GB of CSV files containing reportedly over 26 million student records, more than 24,000 teacher records, and sensitive PII (including Social Security Numbers, addresses, emails, and dates of birth). Samples were shared publicly and appear plausible though possibly outdated; law enforcement has been notified. The report also notes LAUSD's September 2022 Vice Society ransomware incident that previously resulted in the theft and publication of ~500GB of district data, but it is unclear whether the current sale is tied to that breach.
