FBI warns of in-person data theft attacks from extortion gang

The FBI warns that the Silent Ransom Group (SRG) — an extortion gang linked to Conti/Ryuk activity since 2022 — is actively targeting U.S. law firms using callback phishing and social engineering to obtain remote access or to send actors in person who insert USB/external drives to steal data for extortion; the alert lists indicators such as unauthorized external drives and individuals impersonating IT support and describes SRG’s practice of threatening to publish or sell stolen data to coerce ransom payments.
