Western Sydney University data breach exposed student data

Western Sydney University notified students and staff that unauthorized access to its Microsoft 365 environment (email and SharePoint) occurred from at least 17 May 2023 and was discovered in January 2024; the breach has impacted roughly 7,500 individuals to date, prompted an investigation with law enforcement and external responders, and — according to the university — shows no signs of ransomware or extortion demands.
