Victorian Department of Education says hackers stole students’ data

The Victorian Department of Education disclosed a breach where an unauthorized party accessed a database holding student names, school names, year levels, school-issued email addresses, and encrypted passwords. The department has reset all student passwords (prioritizing VCE students), says birth dates, home addresses, and phone numbers were not exposed, and reports investigators have found no evidence the data was publicly released; it has removed the attack vector and will provide updates as available.
