Massive anti-cybercrime operation leads to over 1,200 arrests in Africa

INTERPOL’s Operation Serengeti 2.0 (June–August 2025) coordinated across 18 African countries and the UK resulted in 1,209 arrests, $97.4 million seized, and the dismantling of 11,432 malicious infrastructures tied to ransomware, business email compromise, and online scams affecting 87,858 victims worldwide; leveraging data from private partners (e.g., Fortinet, Group-IB, Kaspersky, Shadowserver, Trend Micro), the action builds on earlier African cybercrime crackdowns (Operation Red Card, 2024’s Serengeti, and Africa Cyber Surge II) to strengthen international cooperation and victim protection.
