Illinois man charged with hacking Snapchat accounts to steal nude photos

U.S. prosecutors allege that between May 2020 and February 2021, 26-year-old Kyle Svara ran a phishing campaign impersonating Snapchat staff to text over 4,500 targets for access codes, harvesting credentials of approximately 570 victims, accessing at least 59 accounts to download and sell private images, and advertising hacking services to clients who used encrypted channels; a related client, former coach Steve Waithe, was sentenced for sextortion.
