Windows 10 users can get extended security updates using Microsoft points

Microsoft announced Windows 10 will reach end of support on October 14, 2025, and detailed the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program: consumers can enroll for $30 or free via 1,000 Microsoft Rewards points or by enabling Windows Backup, with an enrollment wizard rolling out from Insiders now to broad availability by mid-August; organizations can subscribe at $61 per device for the first year, with renewals up to three years at increasing costs, while Windows 365/VM users receive ESU at no extra charge. Microsoft 365 apps on Windows 10 will receive feature updates through August 2026 and security updates through October 10, 2028, and Microsoft Defender Antivirus intelligence updates will continue through October 2028. Usage data shows Windows 10 remains widely deployed (~53% of Windows systems), though Steam’s survey indicates a majority of gamers have moved to Windows 11.
