Ascension: Health data of 5.6 million stolen in ransomware attack

Ascension, a major U.S. healthcare network, disclosed a May 7–8 ransomware incident linked by reporting to the Black Basta gang that resulted in the exfiltration of personal and medical information for ~5.6 million patients and employees; the breach disrupted electronic health records and clinical operations, forced manual processes and service diversions, and exposed data types including medical records, payment information, and government IDs while Ascension notified authorities and offered identity protection services.
