Data breach at fintech firm Betterment exposes 1.4 million accounts

Betterment disclosed a January breach that exposed personal information for about 1,435,174 accounts (emails, names, DOBs, addresses, phone numbers, and some device/employment metadata); attackers also sent fraudulent crypto-scam emails and conducted a DDoS/extortion campaign, while a CrowdStrike-supported forensic investigation found no evidence of customer account credentials being compromised.
