Microsoft announced the phased retirement of Exchange Web Services (EWS) for Exchange Online: default blocking begins October 1, 2026, and a final shutdown occurs April 1, 2027. Administrators can temporarily preserve access using application allowlists if configured by the end of August 2026; Microsoft will pre-populate allowlists starting September 2026 for tenants that haven’t configured them and may run temporary “scream tests” to expose hidden dependencies. On-premises Exchange Server installations remain unaffected, and Microsoft recommends migrating integrations to the Microsoft Graph API.
