Discord announced DAVE, an open-source end-to-end encryption protocol for voice, video, and streaming, audited by Trail of Bits and built on WebRTC encoded transforms with MLS for group key exchanges, ECDSA identity keys, ephemeral per-call identities, and out-of-band verification via “voice privacy codes.” The staged rollout begins on desktop and mobile apps, displays E2EE indicators for eligible calls, and will extend to web clients, while outdated clients remain limited to transport-only encryption.
