Signal adds secure cloud backups to save and restore chats

Signal introduced optional end-to-end encrypted backups for chats, currently in Android beta and coming to iOS and desktop, offering daily automatic backups protected by a device-generated 64-character recovery key that Signal never stores; the free tier covers all messages and the last 45 days of media with 100 MiB of storage, while a paid subscription provides 100 GB for $1.99/month, and the announcement follows earlier privacy features like encrypted cross-device sync, Windows 11 screen security to block Recall, and username support.
